NASA is in the process of deprecating the use of the FTP protocol for data and information access.

PO.DAAC is pleased to offer PO.DAAC Drive as a robust FTP alternative for browsing and retrieving data at PO.DAAC.  It offers file navigation and download through an interface served directly through your browser, and with a familiar look and feel.  It also allows users to access data via a command line so that interactions can be easily scripted.  As a new feature, thanks to the underlying open technologies, it also enables mounting the PO.DAAC data repository to your own local computer, where you can browse, view, and download the data as if you had the entire PO.DAAC archive mounted on your own machine.

Please note that each user must create an Earthdata Login Profile in order to download files. Instructions to register for an Earthdata Login account are available at https://urs.earthdata.nasa.gov/users/new.

Users with existing Earthdata Login Profile will be prompted to update their profiles for application required attributes (add values for Study Area and Organization) and agree to ESA Sentinel-3 End User License Agreement. Details can be found here.

We encourage all FTP users to complete their transition of legacy data access scripts and methods to conform to HTTPS, primarily via PO.DAAC Drive, at their earliest convenience.

Although we expect FTP service to likely expire by mid-2019, we recommend an earlier transition to maximize familiarity with the PO.DAAC’s operational HTTPS data distribution services and minimize data disruption when FTP service is no longer available. To ensure a successful transition for all FTP users, our User Services team is standing by to address all technical issues and concerns.
