The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the Oceans Melting Greenland (OMG) Multi Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) and Single Beam Echo Sounder (SBES) Bathymetry L2 Version 1 datasets. The OMG mission aims to improve estimates of sea level rise by addressing the question: To what extent are the oceans melting Greenland’s ice from below? The MBES dataset provides high resolution bathymetric measurements around Greenland at ocean terminating glaciers in fjords and the coast. The SBES also measures bathymetry, but with a narrower beam. It was used in areas where the MBES could not be used because the area was physically too small for the instrument or ship.

Datasets comprising this release are the L2 along track trajectory shipboard echo sounder bathymetric data.  The first cruise was in 2015 and the last cruise in 2017, with 2-4 cruises a year lasting between 2 to 4 weeks. Each file contains the data from one research cruise. Data files are in netCDF format and compliant with CF metadata conventions.

The OMG MBES and SBES bathymetric L2 Version 1 datasets are described and discoverable via the PO.DAAC data portal. The dataset information pages also provide access to the technical documentation and guidance on how to cite the data.
