The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the Tellus JPL/GFZ/CSR GRACE and GRACE-FO Level 3 Monthly Ocean Mass Anomaly Release 6.0 (RL06) version 02 (v02) datasets.
The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and GRACE Follow-On (GRACE-FO) missions are a joint partnership between NASA and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). Both missions use twin satellites to accurately map variations in the Earth's gravity field and surface mass distribution. GRACE-FO is designed as a successor to the GRACE mission. Detailed information regarding the GRACE and GRACE-FO missions are available from the project GRACE and GRACE-FO websites and also the PO.DAAC GRACE and GRACE-FO mission webpages.
The GRACE and GRACE-FO Level 3 Monthly Ocean Mass Anomaly RL06 v02 datasets replace the existing v01 datasets. The v02 has resolved a processing inconsistency issue in the v01 files for both GRACE and GRACE-FO. This inconsistency resulted in erroneous leakage corrections, in particular near Glacial Isostatic Adjustment (GIA)-affected regions. Interior ocean data points (i.e., more than 1000 km away from coastlines) are minimally affected, and this new version rectifies this issue for all data points. Each dataset is formatted in netCDF, ASCII (YAML encoded), and GeoTIFF.
The datasets are described and discoverable via the PO.DAAC dataset information pages. The dataset information pages also provide access to the technical documentation, the GRACE-FO Level-3 User Handbook, and guidance on how to cite the data.
