The PO.DAAC is pleased to announce the public release of the GHRSST NOAA GOES-17 (G17) L2P/L3C version 2.71 and Himawari-8 (H08) L2P/L3C version 2.70 datasets. GOES-17 is the second satellite in the US NOAA's GOES-R series equipped with Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) sensor identical to GOES-16 satellite. H08 is the 8th of the Himawari geostationary weather satellites operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). Its Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) sensor is almost the same as GOES-17/ABI. More information regarding the GOES-17 and H08 is available from the GOES-17 mission and  Japan Meteorological Agency Himawari-8 mission.

Datasets comprising this release include G17 L2P/L3C v2.71 and H08 L2P/L3C v2.70 Sea Surface Temperature (SST) datasets, which are produced by NOAA's Advanced Clear-Sky Processor for Ocean (ACSPO) system. Both G17 and H08 L2P datasets map day and night hourly SST (collated from 10-min sampling)  in a Full Disk (FD) with spatial resolution from 2km at nadir to 15km at the disk edge. G17, named as GOES-West, covers areas from 163E-77W and 60S-60N, while H08 covers the region of 80E-160W and 60S-60N. The L3C (Level 3 Collated) products are a regularly gridded version of the ACSPO L2P products with 0.02-degree lat/lon spatial resolution. All the four datasets are in netCDF format, following compliance with the GHRSST data specification 2 (GDS2). These datasets are currently in the process of a historical backfill processing on behalf of the NOAA ACSPO provider. At the present time, these data are available from 16 October 2019 through the near present day with an approximate latency of 6 hours from the latest observation time. Once the historical data backfill is completed, the full historical data record will begin on 1 February 2019 for G17 and 1 June 2015 for H08, respectively.

The GHRSST NOAA GOES-17 (G17) L2P/L3C v2.71 and Himawari-8 (H08) L2P/L3C v2.70 datasets are described and discoverable via the PO.DAAC dataset information pages at G17 L2P/L3C and H08 L2P/L3C. More information on the GHRSST Project, as well as other GHRSST datasets, may be found here.
